Background
China Post plans to issue a set of 1 commemorative stamp titled "The 60th Anniversary of the Chinese Mountaineering Team's Ascent to Mount Qomolangma" on May 25, 2020. The stamp features the design theme "The 60th Anniversary of the Chinese Mountaineering Team's Ascent to Mount Qomolangma" with a face value of 1.20 yuan per set. The planned circulation is 7.4 million sets.

Mount Qomolangma, the main peak of the Himalayas, is located on the border between the People's Republic of China and Nepal. As the world's highest peak above sea level, its rock surface elevation was measured by China's State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping in 2005 as 8,844.43 meters.

On May 25, 1960, Wang Fuzhou, Gongbu, and Qu Yinhua, members of the Chinese Mountaineering Team, successfully reached the summit of Mount Qomolangma for the first time, achieving the great feat of ascending the world's highest peak from the northern slope in human history.

The commemorative stamp takes illustration as its main form. With the majestic Mount Qomolangma as the background, the foreground depicts Chinese mountaineers overcoming hardships and obstacles to march towards the peak. The national flag element is also incorporated into the design. The overall picture is grand in momentum, rich in colors, and full of characteristics of the times, fully demonstrating the pioneering spirit of the Chinese Mountaineering Team in bravely scaling new heights and highlighting the great feat of the first human ascent to Mount Qomolangma from the northern slope.

This set of stamps is designed by Wu Shining and printed by Beijing Stamp Factory using the photogravure process.
