Background
China Post is scheduled to issue a set of 1 commemorative stamp titled "Centenary of the Founding of Harbin Institute of Technology" on June 6, 2020. The stamp bears the theme "Centenary of the Founding of Harbin Institute of Technology" with a total face value of 1.20 yuan. The planned circulation is 7.8 million sets.

Affiliated to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) is a multidisciplinary university focusing on science and engineering, with coordinated development of disciplines including science, engineering, management, literature, economics, law, and art. It has three campuses located in Harbin, Weihai, and Shenzhen. Founded in 1920, HIT was designated as one of the two model universities in China to learn from foreign higher education models in 1951. In 1954, it was included in the first batch of 6 key universities prioritized for development by the state and was once hailed as "the cradle of engineers." The university entered the first batch of key universities under the national "Project 211" in 1996, was identified as one of the first 9 key universities in the national "Project 985" in 1999, merged with Harbin University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (sharing the same origin) to form the new HIT in 2000, and was selected into the list of Class A universities for the national "Double First-Class" Initiative in 2017.

The commemorative stamp "Centenary of the Founding of Harbin Institute of Technology" takes the solemn and majestic main teaching building of HIT as the core element. With a rigorous composition and concise, orderly layers, the white background sets off the magnificent European-style teaching building. Complemented by elements such as "China Post," face value, university emblem, the number "100," and the school motto presented through colorless fluorescent technology, the stamp highlights HIT's long history, profound heritage, and brilliant achievements.

Designed by Shen Jiahong, the stamp is printed by Beijing Stamp Printing House using a combination of offset and intaglio techniques. The concise and refined engraving strokes depict the solemnity and grandeur of the main teaching building, while the partial cold stamping process applied to the background number "100" reflects the century-old university's long history and splendid accomplishments.
