Background
This set of stamps chooses the designs of two ancient buildings from China and San Marino. The Republic of San Marino is on the slopes of Mount Titano in northeast Apennines. With an area of 61 square kilometers, San Marino is bordered with Italy in every direction, and its official language is Italian. It is a Catholic nation, and the capital of the republic is San Marino, which was built in AD 301. In 1263, the country developed its republic law, making it the oldest republic in Europe. A hilly country which is about 700 meters above sea level, San Marino enjoys mild climate and boasts of attractive scenery. Every year millions of foreign visitors flock to the country. Important sources of the government revenue are tourism and the sale of postage stamps.
In recent years China has jointly issued stamps with foreign countries for several times. This has helped boost the bilateral ties.
