The Ninth National Games of the People's Republic of China, the first large-scale, comprehensive national games in the new century and new millennium, were held from November 11 to 25,2001 in Guangzhou. There were 30 events, including 345 contests. More than 12,300 sportsmen from provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government, the PLA and various associations attended the preliminaries and finals with lofty sportsmanship and high spirits.
