The 21st Universiade was held in Beijing from 22nd August to 1st September 2001. It was the first large-scale, international-level games in the new century and the first of its kind hosted by China. The 21st Universiade had 12 sports and 168 events.About 7000 sportsmen abd sportswomen , and officials from 160 countries and regions participated, representing the largest scale and highest level of the Universiade in its history.
